Making Your Voice Heard

You can express your concerns about the policy by: 

• Writing to North Yorkshire Councillors, to Julian Smith, to the YDNP etc.

• complaining to NYC through their website

• writing to the press

• telling your friends and neighbours about what is going on

• posting about the issue on social media

Points to Focus on:  

• The defects in the policy

  • • Nearest School definition

      • Not recogniiing that nearest school on foot may be many miles further than the the school which is nearest by road

    • Safety of high-level routes between dales

      • Ignoring safety of road routes in determining "nearest schools"

    • The appeals process

      • Failure to accept that distance, safety and cost of road routes should be considered "exceptional circumstanaces"

      • Failure to "act reasonably" and in a "fair and rational" manner - as required by Statutory Guidance

    • Errors in individual cases

      • In particular incorrect mapping data

• Discrimination against rural communities

  • Eligibility

    • Failure to recognise absence of public transport from updale To Skipton - discriminating agaist children who get places at Skipton Girls and Ermysteds

  • Permit pricing - disproportionate cost of permits compared to fares on NYC bus later in day for same jouney - >4x

We need to keep the pressure on NYC – the policy review starts in the middle of the year
